on and for Fire, Rescue and EMS Apparatus.Incumbent(s) may not be
required to perform all duties in this description and incumbent(s) may
be required to perform position-related tasks other than those specifically
listed in this description.
We give a higher preference to welders with 2+ years of aluminum welding and
who are WABO certified or will commit to completing certification please see
Essential Job Functions:
Keeps track of shop inventory and orders.
Ensures shop cleanliness and maintenance on a regular basis.
Processes and tracks repair orders.
Makes repairs and performs welding and fabrication on all vehicles and equipment, both in shop and on-site.
Monitors and instructs accordingly all safety-related issues as related to the shop area or any location where maintenance is being performed.
Available to perform emergency repair work after hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.
To be considered for this job, you MUST have:
2 Years Minimum Welding experience with focus on Aluminum
The ability to determine the kind of tools & equipment needed for the job
Good math skills, time management skills & reading comprehension
Strong critical thinking skills
Arm/hand steadiness, control precision, good coordination, finger dexterity, trunk strength, static strength & dynamic strength
The ability to stand for long periods of time
The ability to comfortably lift up to 60 pounds
The ability to work at heights and/or in confined spaces
Maintain good personal hygiene and appearance
Pass a background check & drug test
You’ll be responsible for:
Fabricating and building components from scratch i.e. bedframes, boxes, consoles and brackets as a few examples
Using hand-welding equipment to MIG & TIG weld or join metal components, or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products
Clamping, holding, tack-welding & grinding component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding
Removing rough spots from work pieces using portable grinders
Chipping or grinding off excess weld or splatter using hand scrapers or power chippers & portable grinders
Welding components in flat, vertical or overhead positions
Operating safety equipment
Operating manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments, using processes such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc & plasma arc
Monitoring the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of metal
Other tasks as assigned
Required Knowledge and Skills:
Reads and follows simple to complicated instructions, schematics, and other information contained in repair manuals for the diagnosis and repair of fire and EMS vehicles and equipment.
Performs calculations and works with numbers to solve problems.
Reads and understands reference books and complicated procedures and manuals.
Ability to prioritize multiple work orders.
Pays attention to detail while ensuring crews observe safety precautions.
Knowledge of safety hazards and precautions.
Appropriately records repairs and parts used.
Must pass pre-employment drug screen.
Work is performed in an automotive repair shop and on construction sites.
May be subject to bending, twisting, reaching, kneeling and lifting such as retrieving and replacing materials, supplies, and inventory, or when performing preventative maintenance and repair of vehicles and heavy equipment.
May be subject to exposure to extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals and fumes common to automotive repair shops.
