Introduction:
The Maintenance Division of the Tucson Water Department is looking for highly skilled Instrumentation & Control/Electronics Technicians with a solid understanding of electrical theory to be responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining electronic systems, and related water system components. This position requires periodic work schedules that may include: holidays, shift work, stand-by and on-call status.

General Description:
Electronics Technicians in the Tucson Water department perform preventative maintenance, repair, install, calibrate, and program instrumentation; along with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and communication equipment. Electronic Technicians also work on discrete and analog devices as it pertains to process control and SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition).

Essential Functions
• Troubleshoot and repair issues with pressure, flow, level, and water quality instrumentation
• Conduct work in confined spaces, requiring the proper safety protocols to be followed Work with DC voltage up to 24 volts and AC voltage up to 120 volts, which at times maybe mixed in with 480 voltage
• Troubleshoot issues with 4-20 milliamp current loops and resolve issues
• Troubleshoot communication issues with remote sites to the SCADA system and may see different network topologies or protocols
• Work with open and closed circuits and need a solid understanding of electrical theory
• Assist other crews; electrical, mechanical, and other departments
• Work on process control for chemical pumps and may come in contact with chemicals
• Calibrate air quality monitors, and issue out as needed, proper documentation is required
• Maintain contact with contractors, assisting other field personnel on any upgrade projects, and attend meetings
• Utilize Enterprise Asset Management system to obtain work orders, service requests, and procure needed parts
• Install new instrumentation and program parameters according to site specific needs and at times will be coordinating site shutdowns with Central Operations for new installs
• Ability to read and understand electrical/electronic schematics
• Follow all electrical safety protocols, such as LOTO (Lock Out Tag Out), Arc Flash, etc.
• Perform preventative maintenance by testing and verifying that equipment is operating properly and correcting minor errors
• Modify programming in PLCs or instrumentation parameters to meet changing needs
• Provide emergency response for critical equipment failures

Minimum Qualifications:
• Minimum Education Level & Type: Associate's Degree
• Minimum Experience Qualifications: At least 2 years of experience in maintaining and repairing electronic equipment, two way radio, microwave, fiber optic, and related communications systems
• An equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position, may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidates will possess the above minimum qualifications as well as relevant experience in the areas listed below:
• Two or more years of experience performing preventative maintenance, installs and repairs in a large water utility or water treatment plant
• Two or more years of experience maintaining and repairing Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
• Two years or more of experience calibrating electrical instruments and working on 4-20 mA current loop signal

Selection Plan:
Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated on the education and work experience in their employment profile and the responses to their supplemental questions. The highest scoring applicants will then be invited to participate in a Written Examination.
• Written Examination will be held November 19, 2020

Upon completion of all examination processes, the highest scoring applicants will be placed on the Civil Service Employment List. An applicant's ranking on the Civil Service list will be based on their final score which will be calculated as:
• 90% of your rating for the written examination
• 10% of your rating for education and work experience

This recruitment will establish a civil service list that may be utilized to fill vacancies occurring at Tucson Water within the next 6 months.
