SCHEDULE:
Monday - Friday, 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High school Diploma or GED and 3 years related experience and/or training in vehicle maintenance
operations and mechanical maintenance. Lead or supervisory experience preferred.
Shall be subject to drug and alcohol testing, pursuant to the Department of Transportation (DOT)
regulations (49 CFR Part 40) and the Federal Transit Administration's Regulations (49 CFR Part 655).

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR CERTIFICATES:
Must possess/obtain and maintain a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with a
passenger endorsement within 6 months of employment. Must possess/obtain Basic First Aid
including CPR and AED.

JOB SUMMARY:
Under limited supervision, provides guidance and oversight to the cleaning and servicing of transit
vehicles; may perform all functions of a Transit Vehicle Cleaner and Transit Service Worker.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Oversees organizes, schedules, coordinates and assists with work duties for vehicle cleaners and
service workers; arranges with other departments for vehicle repair; identifies needed repair;
Coordinates outside repairs when necessary.
Provides crew with training, assistance and monitors for quality control. Documents and reports
performance and behavioral issues as necessary. Works within established policies to evaluate staff
performance in accordance with City processes.
Cleans inside of all transit vehicles sweeps, dusts, mops and cleans floors, seats, windows, mirrors,
steps, wheel well covers, walls, ceilings, handrails, fare boxes and other surfaces using brooms, mops,
squeegees, rags and towels. Uses household-type cleaning products. Vacuums tracks for securing
wheelchairs and other mobility assistance devices. Removes gum, stains and debris from seats and
surfaces.
Notes, identifies and reports seating, lighting and other components requiring repair and/or
replacement and conditions that could cause injury to passengers.
Pressure washes designated areas of vehicles and wheel wells prior to entry into the vehicle washing
facility. Dries external vehicle surfaces after washing. Washes vehicles by hand in the event of vehicle
washing facility malfunction.
Services transit vehicles with fuel and oil. Replaces all lamps and lights both interior and exterior;
replaces flasher units. Maintains anti freeze, other fluids and levels and performs other similar
servicing procedures. Checks exterior of Transit Division vehicles and inspects for evidence of
damage, accidents or repair and maintenance needs. Inspects tires for low, flat or scuffed tires in
need of attention, notifies garage. Adds air as needed. Checks lug nuts; tightens if loose or replaces if
missing. Repairs and/or replaces mirrors and windshield wipers. Makes adjustments to exit doors and
interior driver's fans so they operate properly. Adjusts wiper arms, generators, air compressors and
power steering units as needed. Modifies schedule holders and transfer cutters to fit vehicle bus
design. Designs and builds driver storage boxes. Paints wheels, minor scratches and interiors as
needed. Maintains seat belts in proper operating order; repairs and/or replaces as needed. Maintains
records on maintenance and mileage of transit coaches and staff vehicles. Prepares work requests for
maintenance and repair needs.
Maintains vehicle security; Secures vehicles, equipment and buildings at the end of shifts. Orders
cleaning supplies and equipment. Mixes cleaning detergents to proper proportions.
Inspects interiors for vandalism and unsafe conditions which could injure passengers or damage their
clothing. Wraps passenger assist bars with tape. Repairs, replaces, and/or recovers seats and inserts.
Maintains fare boxes by un-jamming them, repairs mechanisms, and cleans interiors including view
windows. Maintains fare box vaults; keeps in good working order and appearance. Maintains
destination signs by putting them back on track, and replaces curtains.
Field work will include but is not limited to: trimming trees and bushes around the bus stop zones or
locations that affect the routes; spraying for weeds; graffiti cleanup; painting over graffiti; remove
stickers and trash from the bus zones; maintain, replace and assist in installation of transit and bus
zones and surrounding areas.
Responsible for making repairs to bus passenger waiting shelters on an as needed basis.
May deliver replacement coaches to transit routes as needed. May operate transit vehicles not
requiring a Commercial Driver's License within the compound. Fuels, checks fluids, inspects and
reports repairs to garage on transit vehicles as needed.
Performs building maintenance/custodial and cleaning duties as needed including but not limited to:
sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing and/or buffing floors; vacuuming or shampooing carpets;
washing windows and walls; dusting furniture; emptying waste receptacles and disposal of waste
materials; cleaning and sanitizing toilet facilities and replenishing supplies; cleaning drinking fountains
and glass doors.
Requires regular and reliable attendance.
Performs other related duties as required.

MAJOR WORKER CHARACTERISTICS:
Knowledge of supervisory principles, practices, and techniques. Ability to train new staff in procedures
of City operations; instruct, oversee, and evaluate the work of subordinate employees; schedule work
of others; maintain records and prepare reports.
Knowledge of the use of hand cleaning equipment, pressure washers and vacuum cleaners. Working
knowledge of tools and the basic routine mechanical maintenance as related to transit vehicles and
their internal and external equipment as well as automobiles. Ability to perform strenuous labor under
dirty and uncomfortable situations and in all types of weather conditions. Ability to perform continuous
physical effort including frequent bending, walking, manipulation of and lifting of heavy departmental
equipment. Ability to operate transit coaches and maneuver them in close quarters with frequent
backing up. Ability to monitor work and relate oral instructions to bus cleaning contractor personnel.
Ability to perform duties with limited on site supervision.
Ability to read, write and speak English fluently to effectively communicate to groups of customers or
employees both verbally and in writing and to understand written and verbal instructions, product
labels and other related written materials. Must be able to interpret documents such as safety rules,
regulations, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine
reports and notes of work accomplished and repair or replacement needs. Ability to establish and
maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
