    NORMA JEAN SUTTON

INSTRUMENTATION/INDUSTRIAL AUTOMATION

    Graduated:
1990

Current Position:
Instrument Technician
Boise Paper, Walulla, WA
Married and mother of one

Why she chose Perry:
“While working as an office clerk at Smurfitt Newsprint in Newberg, Oregon, I learned about the trades. I found out that the instrument technicians were making three times as much as I was! They had all graduated from Perry Tech and they told me that I could do it too.”

Why women should consider a technical career:
“Women in the trades earn the same family wage income and benefits as men. Instrumentation is challenging, has lots of variety, and you don’t have to dress up. It can be physically challenging at times, but I prefer that to sitting behind a desk.”
