Tutoring helps classmates who are struggling and it reinforces what Baldwin has learned. Baldwin's performance as a student, combined with his willingness to help others, has earned him Student of the Month honors for January. “Jon sets an example. He is a silent leader who is always in the background willing to help others without even being asked,” said Forrest Buchmann, head of Perry's Electrical Department. Baldwin entered the program with a strong background in the field. He worked in aviation electronics during his eight years of service in the Navy. Technical careers for women will be in the spotlight on Thursday, February 9, when Perry Technical Institute hosts its annual Women in Technology Day. The event will feature presentations by several female Perry graduates who have gone on to successful careers in their fields. The free event is open to women of all ages, including high school students, young adults and women who are reentering the workforce. According to statistics from the United States Department of Labor, women working in non-traditional fields earn 20-30% more than women working in traditional fields. However, less than 10% of the technical workforce is female. Following the program, participants will have a chance to learn more about the training offered at Perry.
