A Medical Billing Specialist plays a crucial role in the healthcare industry by ensuring that medical services are accurately billed and reimbursed. Their primary responsibility is to manage the financial aspect of patient care, ensuring that healthcare providers receive proper compensation for their services. Responsibilities:
Create and submit medical claims to insurance companies or government programs for reimbursement.
Assign ICD-9, ICD-10, and other relevant codes to diagnoses and procedures
Ensure that claims are accurately coded using the appropriate medical coding systems (such as CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS)
Confirm and update patient demographics, insurance information, and other relevant details to facilitate accurate billing.
Follow up on unpaid or denied claims and resolve any billing discrepancies
Verify patients' insurance coverage and eligibility to determine the extent of coverage for specific medical services.
Address billing inquiries from patients, insurance companies, or internal staff regarding claim status, discrepancies, or payment issues.
Monitor and follow up on unpaid or rejected claims to resolve issues and ensure timely reimbursement.
Record and reconcile payments received from insurance companies, patients, or other third-party payers.
Generate and analyze reports related to billing activities, claim status, and reimbursement trends.
Stay updated on changes in coding guidelines, regulations, and insurance policies
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree in medical billing or related field preferred
Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification strongly preferred
Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical coding and billing
Knowledge of medical office procedures and insurance claim processing
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 – 40 per week
